God is continuing to work through New Community Church and we are excited about the new and exciting things God has planned for us during summer 2010.

Current Series: Mission
This Week:
This Sunday at NCC Ricardo Gomez will be sharing with us in our Sunday morning services. The Gomez family is one of our missionary families we support as a church. The Gomez's are currently serving in Chile and are doing amazing ministry there. Join us as Ricardo preaches and shares with us about how God is using his family to change lives.
Preview: Often times the storms of life surround us and overwhelm us. In our next series, starting on September 19, we will be looking at these storms and the biblical answers. The storms we will look at are: struggling marriage, addiction, losing faith, discontent, financial hardship.

Leadership
Samuel J. Kribbs who acknowledged a calling into ministry in the fall, became our Local Ministerial Candidate in April. This summer he will be expanding his role to Intern Pastor. This will allow him to gain more experience as he works his way towards Conference Ministerial Candidate. He will continue to work on preparing and giving our weekly message, about once per series and will come into the office one day a week to help and learn about the administrative side of church. He will also be helping with our new vision for Life Groups.
We are sure he would appreciate your prayers of support and guidance during this challenging and exhilarating time in his life as he follows God's call.
You can find out more about Sam on the 'Who We Are" page of this website.
Life Groups
God has provided NCC with some amazing opportunities to reach out and serve “the least of these” in the metro area. We are kicking everyone out of the church and out of their homes to be salt and light to the area. We hope you will take a look at the opportunities, reflect and pray on it and join a group to serve our community.
We will be having a meeting for everyone interested in serving this semester in a “Going” Group directly after the 11:00 a.m. service on August 29. Pastor Sam who is heading up our groups will be there to answer any questions as well the group leaders. Hope to see everyone there! God Bless!
Hope Center, KC
A neighborhood is the place where families should feel safe and secure. Sadly, in many places around the area this is not the case. Hope Center has worked to change this for over 10 years. The Hope Center has been entrenched in this community as a fellow neighbor and partner. Its plan for transformation is made up of several initiatives that any healthy neighborhood must have. The commitment today includes a strong youth development ministry, a medical center and in the very near future will include a charter school and a neighborhood church. Housing and safety initiatives have begun and will expand as resources allow. There are a couple of opportunities to help this organization. First, we will prepare and bring a meal, on a day that will be decided later, to a family in the community. Second, this community needs help with cleaning bi-weekly on Saturdays.
Hillcrest Ministries
Homelessness is a growing epidemic in our community. Often times people just need a helping hand to get back on their feet. Hillcrest Ministries is dedicated to taking people who are homeless to self-sufficiency in 90 days. They continue to stay involved in the lives of the people they help for up to five years. The organization needs people to help financially counsel the people in the program. They teach people how to budget down to the penny. The counselors meet with each person weekly in groups of two. We would also like to look at the possibility of providing a weekly crafts night for the kids of the families in the program.
Valley View School
Not all adolescents are equipped to succeed in a regular school environment. For those that are in this category, Valley View Middle School is an alternative. We have a great opportunity to step-in and help. Starting on September 21, the school would like a bi-weekly chill and grill event for the kids from 3 - 5pm. This is a great opportunity for us to reach out and help kids who truly need it. We will help with the food and refreshments. We will also create a lesson/activity for the kids based on Steven Covey’s, Seven Habits for Highly Effective Teens.
Veronica’s Voice
The sex trade industry is one that plagues our society and makes victims of young women. This organization works to free women from this soul destroying and devastating lifestyle. A group of three or four (women only) will meet weekly, either on Tuesday or Friday with women for counseling and positive uplifting conversation, over lunch. On September 4 from 10 a.m.-11 p.m. there will be an orientation meeting, which the coordinator for the organization would like everyone to attend.

Story Cards
Stories are powerful. Stories help us to form reality, remember the past, and they also guide us into the future. Stories teach and inspire. Stories move us out of apathy to action. One of the things that we'll be doing monthly @ NCC starting in September is passing out Story Cards to everyone and asking them to respond with what God has been doing in their lives. These stories will encourage everyone to keep living for God and asking God to mold and use us.
May God Bless You, Yours and New Community Church!
